Dad passed a GEW88 spandau 1895 down to me on sunday. Took it to a gunsmith to check it out and just like every other GEW88 out there, my bolthead is missing... i found one on feebay for like $80!!! is that reasonable??? mine has not had the turkish molestation done but does have the "S" mark above the spandau date.... its a family heirloom so i have no intentions of selling it but i do want to fire it at least once before i hang it up for the rest of my life and it gets passed to the next generation...

heres some pics

Nice rifle bet it shoots good, if the bolthead is complete with extractor/ejector that is about right for price a member here CaseC did have a run of them made but I think he is out now U.S. commercial made ammo for 8mm is the easiest to find to shoot in your gun

That's a lot better price you would have a hard time finding the extractor for Vals bolt head because its a control feed type the ejectors rarely come up but they can be made most use an mechanics hand wrench to cut out a piece then shape it to fit will see if I have an extra one I would love to hear how she shoots :)

Thanks! i would greatly appreciate it! i saw a link somewhere in my searches where you can mod an ejector from some other rifle to fit the 88 but i cant find it anywhere...

i shoot a lot of cap and ball guns and have been refinishing and rebuilding antiques for several years now so making parts is not that big of a deal to me, i can do almost anything with a set of files and my dremel, i just need to know where to start lol...

Our member CaseC has done a thread where you take the Mexican Vaquiero extractor and modified to fit the Gew 88 but for ejector I know of no other rifle you can modify to fit Gew88 here is pics of an ejector (left) and extractor (right) I have one ejector

i found a video of how to make it using a cheap crescent wrench like you said. i'm going to try that first (i think it would be cool for the next generation who gets the rifle to know i actually made some of the parts for it) if that doesnt work, i'll let you know!
