Hello Ron & welcome to the Gew88.com forum like Gamble said ebay has the parts you need just have to wait & watch for them items like that usually go to ebay because seller can get more for them there was a Kar88 cover that sold less than a year ago for $150.00 with the leather strap too! Some one else beat me to it I need one for my Gew91 :)

gambirgrogan and Admin:

Thanks for your responses and I will monitor Ebay for a muzzle cover.

Have not shot my Kar 88 yet but want to. The receiver is stamped Erfurt 1892 with a "dot" and "S" above this stamping. So it is my understanding that this indicates that the chamber has been re-worked for the spitzer shaped bullet but because this rifle does not have the "NM" marking on the receiver, it has not been re-barreled for the "new" spitzer cartridge. Guess my first step is to have the barrel slugged to confirm diameter and the rifle barrel along with having it check to ensure it is safe to shoot. Then I need to find a source for "safe" cartridges to shoot out if it. Do you know if anyone is manufacturing cartridges now to shoot in this rifle?

Again, any info on where I can find correct cartridges is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the Welcome and your time in responding!!!

Ron

U.S commercial 8mm is safe to shoot in your Kar88 but might not be accurate because of bore diameter keep in mind there are different bore sizes so slugging your bore and a cast bullet will be better for accuracy the .32 caliber will be your best bet for cast bullets
