Replacement Barrels

Unread postby CASEC » Sun Feb 28, 2016 12:05 am

What barrels have you found to replace your Gew 88 barrel with.
The Lothar Walther barrels are $285 so I haven't used those.

For my 7x57 Kar 88 Commercial I had a SA K98 type turned down and re threaded. Now it shoots great. I want to find a mismatch Kar 88 and do the same thing in 8x57 so I have the proper bore diameter to shoot surplus.

The Gew 88 is harder due to length so far the only ideas I have are small ring Turk Mauser barrels and Vergueiro barrels.

Other than the original ones you find on auction sites you can use any small ring mauser barrel I have one receiver that some one put a heavy target barrel on that I am putting together.

In what caliber? Pics? I want to see how that turns out. Any idea how to mount a scope? How about a target stock?

Greetings!

Try Numrich for barrels for a start? They may have what you want for your project, maybe cut down the barrel and re-crown? I don't know if the taper of the barrel will not work? I think the barrels were going for about 65 bucks-ish? Cheers!

Casec believe it's in 8mm have to slug bore, don't know how you could scope it without drilling which I guess is as far as previous owner got it's a 1941 dated Gew88/Turk 88 05/35 kinda cool with a date from WW2 on it! I have a Erfurt 1916 Kar98 in 8mm/06 wildcat with same problem can't mount a scope without drilling & I won't do that to the old girl(s) thought about modifying a scope mount that goes in the place of the rear sight but that's as far as I got figured to use a stock that doesn't have the barrel shroud for it maybe an Hanyang Type88 Or a Turk stock.
